Thanks to all who came out to my open studio-- the weekend really threatened rain, but I was talking to people all day. This was the first open studio where I was really pushing my sewing lessons-- it's great when you figure out what people want, and it's something you can offer.
Saw a friend that I have had in my needle felting classes at Cazadero Performing Arts Family Camp (go!), and it's always so strange and wonderful to see someone you only see once a year step out into Real Life. For a second I didn't' recognize her without a layer of redwood dust.
I've had a studio at The Alameda Artworks for over 10 years now, so kids who came in when they were babies (or bumps) are now coming in just about ready to take lessons from me. And the Jumbo Jibbles they've had since they were babies are getting small and smaller.. as they get bigger. If you've ever had reservations about bringing your kid into my studio, oh please do not. My favorite visitors are kids.
You don't have to sell to kids (because they don't have any money) so you can just be yourself and have fun. I get hilarious recommendations from them, and one set tried very very hard to stump me on things I've never made before (the answers: pencil, starfruit, passionfruit.)
Here's a misconception you may have if you've been in before: my Art Petting Zoo was not created for kids, though I love the way they interact with it. It was made for adults because they kept assaulting my artwork with their hands! You'd never honk a painting!!!
Next event is December 13th from 11-5pm. We'll be focusing on small stuff you can buy for the holidays (but we'll sell you big stuff too.) Please try to buy local this holiday season-- artists and your town will really appreciate it!
